DEFINITION OF A POLITICAL SIGN

Any sign encouraging the election or defeat of any candidate seeking any political office or encouraging the passage or defeat of any ballot measure. Signs shall not include the village logo or any endorsement from the village.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Residential Lots: There is not a limit to the number of political signs that may be placed on a residential lot within the village. Political signs cannot exceed sixteen (16) square feet in area or six (6) feet in height on a residential lot.

Commercial Lots: No more than four (4) signs or forty eight (48) square feet of total signage shall be allowed on any lot with one hundred (100) linear feet or less of frontage. For lots with more than one hundred (100) linear feet of street frontage, four (4) additional signs are allowed for every one hundred (100) feet, none of which shall exceed twenty four (24) square feet per sign or forty eight (48) square feet per one hundred (100) linear feet of street front, or ninety six (96) square feet in aggregate on a commercial lot.

LOCATION GUIDELINES

  • Signs may NOT be located in ANY right-of-way.
  • Any sign deemed to be a visual obstruction of traffic or resemble a traffic sign may be removed.
  • Signs may NOT be placed on ANY publicly owned property.
  • Signs are not permitted in flower pots in the downtown right-of-way.
  • Signs located on private property, including business establishments, must have owner approval.

RIGHT-OF-WAY NOTES

  • Signs shall not be placed between the bike path/sidewalk and road.
  • If no sidewalk is present, signs should be behind utility equipment.
  • If utility equipment is behind the sidewalk, signs should be behind utility equipment.
  • If no sidewalk or utility equipment are present, signs should be approximately 15 feet from road edge.
  • No sign shall be posted on ANY vegetation or utility poles.

Illegal parkway signs will be removed by village staff.
