Rt 59 & West Bartlett Road Improvements
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is improving the intersection of Rt 59 & West Bartlett Road. The improvements will include dual left turn lanes and right turn lanes on all four legs of the intersection (similar to the Rt 59 & Stearns Road intersection). It will also include traffic signal modernization and intersection lighting.
September 2024 Update
TRAFFIC SIGNALS: ComEd has completed the majority of the electrical work on the traffic signals, and the signal turn-on is expected to be scheduled within the next few weeks.
STREET LIGHTS: The village is waiting for a backorder electrical component for the remaining poles. Once that is completed, ComEd will come back and make final voltage adjustments on the street light cabinet.
EXTRA WORK: Currently IDOT Construction and IDOT Hydraulics are discussing the best solution for an unforeseen issue with the existing storm sewer on the south leg of the intersection. The traffic impact should be minimal.
2024 Water Main Replacement Project
The Village of Bartlett replaced approximately 12,000 feet of water main on North Avenue between Western Avenue and Prospect Avenue, as well as on Oak Avenue between Lake Street and Bartlett Avenue. This work is in preparation for the resurfacing of North Avenue, which will take place during the summer of 2025 and the eventual resurfacing of Oak Avenue sometime between 2026 and 2029 (depending on federal fund availability).
This water main replacement project also included full lead service replacements for those homes/businesses along North Avenue and Oak Avenue.
To provide a safe work zone and allow for safe passage through the construction zone, small detours may be set up on a daily/weekly basis as needed. Please be alert for detour signage and use caution while driving through the construction zone.
Update 9/16/2024:
Contractor will begin paving along North Avenue. This operation is expected to take 7 to 10 working days, and will start from Western Avenue and head east to Prospect. Daily detours will be set up as needed to direct traffic around the work zone. Access to driveways and side streets will always be maintained overnight.
The contractor is aware of the school rush periods, as well as the North Avenue Car Show on Sunday, 9/22 and assured PW that the scheduled work should not have an impact on the school rush periods or the car show. See below for the remaining project schedule:
- 9/16 - 9/27: Final Asphalt Paving Along North Ave
- 9/23 - 9/27: Final Landscape Restoration
- 9/27: Anticipated Project Completion
2024 General Maintenance Activities
Each year, the Village of Bartlett undertakes a series of general maintenance projects that help to improve and maintain the village owned right-of-way. These project locations are dynamic, and the public works department strives to address the areas of need while also taking a systematic approach to effectively move through town. These general maintenance projects include:
- Concrete Replacement (by contractor) – addresses issues in sidewalk and curb in various locations throughout the village.
- Sidewalk Cutting (by contractor)– addresses small displacements (1/2” to less than 2”) between squares of sidewalk that do not warrant removal and replacement.
- Pavement Marking (by contractor) – addresses faded lane markings, pedestrian crosswalks, and bicycle lanes/crossings.
- Pavement Crack Sealing (by contractor) – fills cracks in asphalt pavement to help prevent further cracking from the freeze thaw cycle.
- Pavement Preservation (by contractor) – spraying rejuvenation/preservation products on asphalt pavements (both roadway and bike paths) to help prolong the life of the pavement.
- Cycle Trimming of Parkway Trees – all year long, the streets division of public works trims parkway trees to address low hanging limbs and promote healthy growth.
Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation
- Main Lining: the village, with other agencies, will go out to bid to continue lining the sanitary mains to reduce ground and storm water from entering the system. The planned areas are Park Place subdivision, and areas around Newport Boulevard. This work should happen in summer/fall 2024. More notices to come.
- Service Lining: the village and a contractor will line participating residents sanitary service laterals. Areas are still being determined and any interested residents should reach out to Bartlett Public Works or visit the “Cost Sharing Programs” page.
- Manhole Rehab: Structured Solutions is entering its third year of the contract and will be lining and repairing manholes in subdivisions near Coral Pond.
Metra Landscaping and Sidewalk Improvements
With funding assistance from Metra, the village is rehabilitating the landscaping and hardscape around the Metra Station, the Bartlett Depot Museum and Town Center. Future details will be provided, but expected construction is 2024.
Various Water Projects
- Well House Removals: the village will be removing the wellhouse adjacent to the fire barn and east of the police station. This area will become additional parking spaces for public use. The storage tank and pumping station south of Bartlett Village Hall will also be removed. The future use has not yet been determined.
- Schick Tower Painting. PW anticipates painting the water tower starting in April, 2024. The tower will be drained and cell receptors will be relocated during painting.
