Home MenuAlvin Krumfuss: Life & Service of a World War I Yank
Alvin Krumfuss was a lifelong Bartlett resident. As one of 11 siblings, he had a close relationship with his family and deep ties to the community. Alvin worked for his brother at Thurnau and Krumfuss Implement Company and enjoyed the fruits of the family’s strawberry fields. A simple yet rewarding lifestyle.
The “yanks started yankin’” on April 6, 1917, when the United States declared war on Germany. Krumfuss volunteered for the American Expeditionary Forces and was initially sent to Camp Waco, Texas for training and onto France for fighting. He sent letters and photos of his time in the war to his siblings back home in Bartlett. These correspondences, saved by his family members, serve as the foundation for this exhibit.
Additional research and resources on World War I demonstrate Krumfuss’ role and experiences during the Great War. Please click the link below to enjoy the exhibit.
