Quilts, Secret Codes & the Underground Railroad

What significance did quilts have for abolitionists, fugitive slaves and the underground railroad? Historical researcher Connie Martin will explain using 18 hand-crafted quilt replicas along with music, images and storytelling, in her presentation about quilt codes and how they were used to signal escape routes to the north.

Join the Bartlett History Museum for this free program. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and a pre-program that will highlight abolitionist Elias C. Guild, Bartlett’s first doctor. Martin’s presentation begins at 7 p.m. Registration is required by phone 630-837-0800 or email prohleder@vbartlett.org with the number of people attending and your phone number.
