Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is not only known for his leadership in the advancement of the Civil Rights Movement but also for the vast social changes in this nation as well. A Baptist minister, inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, King stressed the use of nonviolence and civil disobedience to achieve his goals.
During this Bartlett Public Library program, historian Jim Gibbons will discuss the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his strong nonviolent beliefs, his turbulent life, tragic death and why the U.S. commemorates January 15 every year in his honor. Gibbons will show that with just four words, “I have a dream,” change for a better world is entirely possible!
