Busy freelance musician and trumpet professor Ryan Hobbs joined the faculty of Illinois Wesleyan University, where he teaches applied trumpet lessons, trumpet studio class, and coaches various chamber groups, in the fall of 2020. He has a bachelor of arts in music from DePaul University and a master of music from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Hobbs is a founding member and leader of the award-winning Chicago-based brass quintet Northside Brass. He maintains an active performance schedule around the country with groups like the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago, soloists like bassist Victor Wooten and commercial/jazz groups.
Hobbs is passionate about music education and maintains an active private studio in the Chicago area with more than 50 private students. He is currently professor of trumpet at Illinois Wesleyan University, Neuqua Valley High School, Metea Valley High School, St. Charles North HS, and Geneva High School. He lives in Geneva with his wife Molly, daughters Emma and Claire, and dog Bernie.
