History of the Little Black Dress

Versatile, dependable and affordable, the little black dress or “LBD” has become the fashion equivalent of a Model T Ford. Join the Bartlett History Museum on Wednesday, 8/24 for an illustrated lecture by historian Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., who explores the history of this fashion icon. Learn how Chanel helped dissociate black from mourning, how Audrey Hepburn helped establish the LBD and how it has been reinvented by everyone from Betty Boop to Prada.

This free program will be at Bartlett Village Hall, 228 S. Main Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments followed by a pre-program by the museum at 6:45 p.m. that will highlight the history of the Bartlett Woman’s Club. Goddard’s presentation begins at 7 p.m.

Space is limited and registration is required. Email prohleder@bartlettil.gov with the number attending and your phone number.
