Families are invited to join in the fun as the Bartlett Depot Museum hosts its First Saturday Free Family Craft. On August 3, it’s "All About STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)" at the Bartlett Depot Museum. For this First Saturday Free Family Craft children will color and design their own kaleidoscope.
The kaleidoscope was invented by accident in 1816 by Sir David Brewster, who was experimenting with polarization and light refraction using a candle and mirrors. He discovered that the closer the objects are to the mirrors the more symmetrical and beautiful the images appeared. See for yourself when you craft your own.
No registration is needed, but supplies are limited. The museum, 100 W. Railroad Avenue, will be open that day from 9 a.m. to noon. Drop in anytime. As always, admission is free and there is free parking across the street in the public lot.
